ABOUT ME

I've been a freelance journalist since I started my college magazine back in 2002.

Over the years, I've written news, features, travel, food and drink, arts and culture, and lifestyle. I have a particular interest in LGBT issues, BAME issues, disability, literature and travel.

Currently I am Publisher and Editor-in-Chief at Vada Magazine (220,000 readers per month), and I work freelance as a journalist, publisher, editor and creative writer. I'm perhaps best known for my poetry.

Previously, I was Editor-in-Chief and founder of OUTburst: Schools OUT UK's Official Guide to LGBT History Month. In 2013 and 2014, I was Assistant Editor for Talent Media's LGBT History Month Magazine, which was distributed through The Sunday Telegraph. I have written for GAZE: A Modern Review, The Leeds Guide, The Pink Paper, The Guardian, MCR MagazineLaminate and NOW.

I regularly appear on radio in the North West and Yorkshire to speak on a wide range of issues. I have also appeared on local and national TV (Tonight, That's Manchester, Sky News).

I am available for commissions and queries.

PRs: pitch me your stories.

Commissioning editors: let's discuss how I can provide useful features and editorial for your publication.

Producers: contact me as a spokesperson on relevant issues.

ELSEWHERE

I'm also a poet, playwright and novelist. I regularly perform my own work to live audiences across the country and overseas.

I have had commissions from BBC Writersroom, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Freedom Studios, 2012 Olympics, imove, Cornerhouse, 4thought.tv, I Love West Leeds Arts Festival and The National Lottery.

In 2014-16, I was part of The Complete Works II, where I was mentored by Patience Agbabi as one of 10 'UK advanced poets' of BAME background.

In 2014, I was commissioned to write 'A Poem for Manchester' for the reopening of Manchester Central Library. I also toured with Tangled Roots across the UK and USA.

In 2013, I was made LGBT History Month Poet Laureate, and was Manchester Pride Writer in Residence along with the writers at Young Enigma.

I was 2012 Olympic Poet for Yorkshire and Writer in Residence at Leeds Kirkgate Market. My 2012 pamphlet Precocious was a reader nomination for the Guardian First Book Prize.

I was 2011 Young Writer in Residence at Zion Arts Centre and Attached Writer at West Yorkshire Playhouse.

In 2010, I was I Love West Leeds Arts Festival Young Writer in Residence.
